I must clarify that my ar is not a McLaren. While there are similarities, I believe it is quite sepreate. I am currently doign a few modifications to seperate it from a Mclaren, considering a couple similarities.

As I said in my previous post, the software I use is 3D Studio Max version 4.

I currently use 3D Studio Max r.4

I have never had any classes in 3D graphics or car design, and have never studied any manuals. It's the same way I learned programming. It's possible to do, but you'd probably progress faster if you did it the way everyoen else does it.

There are tousands of free ones all over the internet. None of them will be great, but you may be able to find one to get you started.

I'll discuss these issues through e-mail if you want. Please e-mail phantomcars@hotmail.com I'm to lazy to pull up my e-mail at the moment (sorry).

I jsut added 2 images of the ZX-2000 version 3. I keep my coroflot portfolio updated, so you may want to save a link to it (below) in your favorites.

By the way,I'd like to know how do you get those impressive renderings.Which program do you use? Do you need to have any skills or attend any course or study any manuals in order to get similar results? Do you know any program that could help me to "pass to the next level" in car design and start making 3D models of my sketches? Keep in mind that I've never used any program related to design. Please reply to the email address above or (if u haven't got the time or just don't wanna do so) post your reply on this guestbook.

Thanks for the encouragment. Atleast over ther past 2 weeks, I have been taking constructive criticism quite well. Infact, the suggestions of many have helped me put together a sizable list of modifications to My ZX-2000 design (www.coroflot.com/phantompanther), which in my opinion is great already. There's no reason you can't improve perfection (I'm joking about perfection, I'm not that arrogant).

Anyways, I tried a few weeks ago to upload images to designerspace, but kept gettign errors. I think I'll try again.

Hey man, good job.Don't give up designing! i must say that most critics here seem to be constructive, but some of them are only written to insult the designer.Ignore the last ones and keep up the good job!

BTW, I'm not offended by posts like Joe Miko's post. Pure critique and nothing personal. Even though I disagree with him, I still am saying thanks...

In response, I must say that of all my supercar stylistic research, the Mercedes CLK GTR was probably the least considered stylistically. While it has a superb shape for aerodynamics and control, the styling on the CLK GTR is not very appealing (to me). Now, the Mercedes CLK GTR Roadster (I was pictures about 2 weeks after my ZX-2000 release) I think is a massive improvement.

I must say that if you think I copied another car, compare these cars...

Mercedes CLK GTR
Mercedes CLK GTR Roadster
FErrari F40
Ferrari F50
Ferrari Enzo
McLaren F1
Saleen S7
Pagani Zonda
Italdesign Nazca C2 Spider
Jaguar XJ-220
Leblanc Caroline
Lotec Sirus Concept
Lotec C1000
Lotus Espirit
...and I could extend this list by at least 15 more cars.

Compare these cars, and you'll see that my car is no more similar to any of these cars than any of these cars are similar to any of these other cars.

The main reason for similarity of my design to these other cars is aerodynamics. These cars have a very optimum aerodynamics shape, and my aerodynamic research lead me to a similar shape.

I'm curious what your thought are after comparing these cars to each other. If you still have the same opinion...fine. Please feel free to e-mail me and discuss any features that may have been inadvertently copied.

Don't mean to burst your bubble but it seems you ripped off many aspects of a Clk GTR, presentation looks great but originality is poor at best(not meant to be hostile just honest criticism)good luck in your future designs

I must appologise for the message I am going to write. Unfortuantely I often get messages like the one "errorist" wrote. I will only respond once. Please ignore the following message unless you plan on writing a simmilar message to the one errorist wrote.
=============================================
Well...Someone is very hostile. Did I step on your toes or run over your cat? Seriously, what are you hoping to accomplish?
I think you are jealous. Why type such a thing if my work was so bad? You wouldn't have even looked at my stuff if it was so bad.
Unfortuantely I did not win anything in the MT Design contest, but that was for reasons out of my control. The Kinkos I had print my poster, never delivered the poster as I instructed, so my car never entered the contest. Would I have one the contest? Maybe yes, maybe no.

I've only been doing car design for about 5 months now, and I have already had good return from my work. Did you really think a message like that would scare me?

While I welcome all sorts of opinions and criticisms of my work, personal attacks are extremly immature. If you want to waste your time typing stupid messages, feel free to. This is my only reply, so feel free to talk to a brick wall.

Loooooooooooser!!!

Who do you think you are?
You have only modelled a boring car with early 90's style, that hasn't won anything in the MT Contest, and you're trying to sell it as the big next thing...

I've only have a word to describe you: ARROGANT

I have gained 2 good contacts to car companies within the last 2 weeks. That's not the real surprise though. The real surprise is that they contacted me because they saw my old design!!!

http://www.3dcar.kg/002_concept_041-060/042_Jonathan Griffin.htm

And this is actually before I started car design. I hardly consider it a design, just a 3D project that looks cool, but messy.

Thanks for the praise/critique Watt. The exhaust appears to stick out because of the angle of the pics & the curve of the back of the car in that area. I did notice that, but I havenít fixed it yet.

By the way, I *AM* working on my next design. Whether or not you are capable of believing this, the ZX-2000 is EVEN BETTER than the ZX-1000. I may release anything on the ZX-2000 until I get a contract on the ZX-1000. I expect to finish it around the end of November, but no later than the end of December.

B.T.W. Feel free to e-mail me. I don't check my guest book often.

looks great and the modeling is awesome, I don't like the headlight design, doesn't fit the car very well, and the exhaust pipes stick out to far and seem to intersect with the lower bumper, there doesn't seem to be and edge to show how it comes through there,, just some ideas, keep at it and make as many designs as you can, so you can be over the top and blow people minds, thats my goal, I also plan to build my own can sometime in my life time. Anyhoo good luck out in this real world. hehehe later bud

I had an idea around october 7th. This new car design will be awesome. It's a supercar design like the ZX-1000, but it has a more complex look to it. I'm not going to describe further, but people like 'Batman' (who probably cant appreciate the McLaren F1, Saleen S7, Ferrari 360, or any modern Porsche) will probably fall in love with the new design. It'll take me a few months to complete it.

Hey Jonathan,
This is Chris Pauwels and I would like to thank you for your comments and constructive criticism! I unlike many people am someone who likes criticism. I beleive that it halps me to improve greatly, even from one drawing to the next.
I will be emailing you soon with some links/websites that might help you with getting exposed to the car companies. I do hope that you have gone to college though because the chances that you will get a job in the automotive design buissiness are very slim without a college education (no matter how good you are, and you are very good.)

Thanks for the support on designersapce. I think it's really cool how I've only had my design posted for 5 of 25 days in the month, and I'm 3rd for the month. 1/5th the month and laready 3rd place. That's only one fifth.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how I could possibly grab the attention of companies. Preferably larger car companies, or ones that specailise in hot cars.

I'm entering the Motor Trend Design Contest with a high resolution 24" x 36" poster. I figure that is a start, but I was wondering if anyone had any other good ideas.
